Overtime Calculator
Estimate regular pay, overtime pay, and total gross pay from your hours and rate.
How the calculator splits total hours
Enter total hours, an hourly rate, a regular-hours threshold, and an overtime multiplier. The calculator divides the total into regular and overtime portions before applying the rate.
regular hours = min(total hours, threshold)
overtime hours = max(total hours − threshold, 0)
How estimated pay is calculated
regular pay = regular hours × hourly rate
overtime pay = overtime hours × hourly rate × multiplier
estimated gross pay = regular pay + overtime pay
Changing the threshold or multiplier changes the arithmetic result immediately. Those fields are inputs, not statements about what a law, contract, or employer requires.
Worked example
For 45 total hours at $20 per hour, using a 40-hour threshold and a 1.5 multiplier, the split is 40 regular hours and 5 overtime hours.
regular pay = 40 × $20 = $800
overtime pay = 5 × $20 × 1.5 = $150
estimated gross pay = $950
Use accurate hours before multiplying by a rate
If your source time includes minutes, convert or total the duration correctly first. For example, 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.50 hours, not 7.30.
