| 8:00 AM | 4:30 PM | 30 min | 8 hr 0 min |

How to read this chart
Worked time equals elapsed time minus the stated unpaid break. The overnight row rolls into the next day.
What each row represents
Each example starts with a clock-in and clock-out pair, finds elapsed time, then subtracts the stated unpaid break. The result is worked time, not simply the clock span.
worked time = elapsed time − unpaid break
Overnight examples
When clock-out is earlier than clock-in, the chart treats the end as occurring on the following day. That lets an example such as 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM produce an eight-hour elapsed span before breaks.
Use the chart for comparison, not for policy
The break values are examples so you can compare how the arithmetic changes. They do not state which breaks should be paid or unpaid in a particular workplace.
