Do Weekends Count as Business Days?
Under Hourformula's default business-day model, Saturday and Sunday do not count as business days.
Monday through Friday are eligible unless a supported calculator is given a manual excluded date.
Eligible days = Monday–Friday, minus supported manual exclusions
This is Hourformula's calculation convention. Some organizations or services may use a different operating calendar.
Example: Friday to Monday
If you add one business day to Friday, the calculator moves through Saturday and Sunday without counting either date.
Monday is the first eligible weekday.
Friday + 1 business day = Monday
Example: an inclusive weekend range
An inclusive range from Saturday through Sunday contains two calendar dates but zero Hourformula business days.
| Date | Counts as a calendar date? | Counts as a business day? |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday | Yes | No |
| Sunday | Yes | No |
Weekends inside a longer range
For an inclusive Friday-through-Tuesday range, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday count while Saturday and Sunday do not.
Inclusive business-day total = 3
What if a weekend date is manually excluded?
It does not reduce the result a second time.
Saturday and Sunday were already ineligible before manual exclusions were applied.
Weekends and holidays are separate concepts
A weekday holiday can require a manual exclusion where the calculator supports one.
A weekend is automatically skipped under the default model whether or not it is also associated with a holiday.
Different systems can use different calendars
The phrase “business day” is context-dependent. A particular organization, service, contract, or jurisdiction may define operating days differently.
Use Hourformula for the stated Monday-through-Friday arithmetic model, then confirm any external calendar that controls the real-world task.
